Crandall Office Furniture’s Steelcase 462 Leap V2 side activated aftermarket gas cylinders have been constructed to meet original OEM chair specifications and are built to last years of use. All of our heavy duty gas cylinders are rated Class 4 (Class 4 is the highest class of chair cylinder available).
A office chair gas cylinder is the height adjustment mechanism on the chair. The typical life span of a office chair gas cylinder is 4-7 years, depending on use and abuse. If failed, your chair will be left with limited or no height adjustment, however you can quickly and easily replace your broken Steelcase 462 Leap V2 side activated gas cylinder today.

New Omni-Directional Design is easier to install! No more lining up the lever when installing the cylinder 🙂

I was unsure which cylinder model I needed since the chair tag was missing. I sent a message and received instructions and a video link to help identify the unit. A pipe wrench and hammer are highly recommend to remove the old cylinder. Once removed the installation of the new cylinder is super easy. After several weeks of use, the new cylinder does not slowly sink and works just as good as the original.

I purchased the cylinder for a stool -> chair conversion. I discovered later that it wasn’t possible with just the cylinder, so I sent a message to the store for advice. I received a prompt reply within a day, recommending a base and coasters to complete the replacement, along with a helpful video. I purchased the additional parts, followed along with the video, and was able to complete the conversion without issue.
The cylinder itself was simple to install once I had the previous cylinder removed (though, that part took some effort) – no alignment necessary. I’ve been using the new parts for a few days and actually prefer them to the Leap V2 parts I was using previously.
Overall, good parts and good service.

Crandall won a lifetime customer with this! My leap v2 was too short and side activated tab means I couldn’t find any replacements online that would get me high enough… until this. At the lowest setting, it’s slightly lower than the OEM cylinder, whereas at the highest setting it’s very tall, even tall enough for a risen standing desk. Fantastic, my back and shoulders thank you.

The cylinder itself I’m sure is great, but I made the mistake of watching the video then buying. You should really update the video as the person instructing on how to do the installation says it’s for both top and side activated chairs…. it is definitely not.

It was easy to replace with the proper tools (big pipe wrench and sledge hammer) and now my chair works like new again

Quick and easy fix for a high-end chair. My neighbor was going to throw it out (recycle), now I’m loving the chair.

newer design is much easier to install as the cone cane installed direction for side adjustment lever.
