Mixed Experience

Let’s start with the good:

Good costumer service. They answered all my questions and accommodated me as much as they could. Great communication Fast shipping, items were well protected. I loved the BioKnit fabric texture and color. It does make the chair look nice and pop.

Now, the not so good:

1. I think the thickness of the pads combined with the actual material removed the Leap experience for me. It felt nice, but it certainly did not feel like I was seating on a Leap, just an average cushy chair. The front of the seat puts uncomfortable pressure under my legs, something that never happened on the original cushion. It makes it much less ergonomic, as it restricts movement and blood flow: the whole point of having this expensive char.

2. Same thing applies to the back rest. Confy and cushy, but I no longer felt the shape of the chair. The nice thing about the Leap is its very specific shape. With the added thickness of the pad, it feels almost like couch. Nice feeling, not a Leap feeling. It also changes the dynamics of the chair a little bit, the recline experience is different and slower with the thicker pad. Not very enjoyable.

3. The BioKnit fabric. While I love it (and the color), the way it is attached to the seats is weird. There is a MASSIVE gap between the cushions and the fabrics, not the traditional gap you see in the original. It added a weird layer of tension (like a weak mesh) that just gets on the way for me to seat nicely and properly, I had to uncomfortably move around (which was hard because the pads were thick and limited my natural mobility, another crucial aspect of ergonomic chairs).

4. The original seat base they gave me was horribly oxidized and it made a horrific loud pitch sound when I seated down. I ended up unmounting their seat pad, used my original one, and sent Crandal the base they sent me. That was not horrible, but it was certainly annoying. I did not expect the seat base from my used 2014 chair was going to be better than the one they sent me!

4. They were accommodating in giving me a thinner back rest. However, that was an extra $75 dollars. I get why from a business/cost perspective, but it is not a pleasant payment to make so that you can get the experience that what you hoped for to begin with.

5. The thinner back rest arrived, I was excited. Well, that was yet my biggest disappointment. It was stinky and way too soft. The thickness was similar to original but it was very soft and weak (it felt like water), I could actually feel the ridges of the plastic back rest! Horrible.

6. Instant regret hit and I was hoping I can get my original pads. I contacted them, and to be fair, they were very nice and tried to find them. But it was to late, they were already taken apart.

So, I bought this used Leap for $300 dollars (not from Crandall, at a local furniture store). I ended up spending $270 trying to get nicer pads, but it backfired. So, I had an enjoyable $300 dollars Leap and I turned it into a downgraded version for $575. This is not to say it will not work for you, but my guess is that if you need so much more thickness for the Leap to be enjoyable, maybe the Leap is not for you? You pay for the ergonomics and the design, I don’t think Crandall lives up to that exception, in my opinion. I ended up ordering a used seat and back rest from Ebay for $170 and I am much happier. But now I am just a few bucks away from buying the original with a lengthly warranty.... Oh well..

Chair Verification & Refundable Deposit

After receiving your order, our team will contact you to request photos of your chair. This ensures we are upholstering and sending the correct pads for your model. Orders will be on hold until these photos are received and verified.

Our upholstery service is a full reupholstery service, not just the sale of new seat and back pads. To maintain our inventory and continue offering this service, we require the original seat and back pads to be returned to us.

A $100 pad return deposit is included with every order. Once the old pads are sent back using the provided prepaid return label, this $100 deposit will be refunded to your original payment method.

Failure to return your original chair pads will result in a void of your upholstery and pad warranty.
